River (2022) is a meeting of minds and hearts, set within a breathtaking landscape which continues to heal following the 2019/2020 Black Summer bushfires.

The quintessential Brother Nature project, River is a wonderful example of modern bush living. Cross Laminated Timber and photovoltaic and passive solar are some of the techniques utilised to deliver River with environmental consciousness, and further enhance the home’s seamless integration into the area’s natural splendour. Every architectural detail and material junction has been thoughtfully considered by Brother Nature and Architect Jascha Oakes Design, to ensure this symmetrical, pavilion-style home is private, functional and beautiful. A difficult site and challenging weather conditions have allowed us to get extra creative in our execution, and presented the opportunity to bring far-flung brilliant teams together (one of our favourite things!). Inside, materiality and texture hold court and wrap this home’s occupants in a warm and natural palette in both contrast to and perfect harmony with the great outdoors. River is a case study in contemporary Australian bush homes.

We’re really excited to utilise CLT and all it’s benefits in a small residential setting. It’s about time we as an industry make this work and harness it to help push Australia’s buildings towards the world standard.
